DIY Button Up Grandma Dress with just safety pins and scissors!
Do you have a grandma that wants to look and feel younger :P, I sound like an ad or infomercial lol! Or maybe your scenario might be that you have a grandma that just has clothes sitting there and doesn’t wear them… OR you just wanna take a button grandma dress and re-design it into something very very cute. So if any of these cases apply to you I will show you how to re-design an ugly “grandma” dress using ONLY safety pins and scissors! in any of those cases here are the steps to do so, ALSO watch the video because it’s very informative and entertaining!
What you’ll need:
- Safety pins (about 20-30)
- Ugly Button-Up “Grandma Dress”
Step 1: Turn Dress inside out
Step 2: Put dress on model or mannequin (whichever) if you’re making it for yourself you can always follow the steps we’ve been following in recent videos. Getting a “sample” by using one of your favorite dresses.
Step 3: Take-in dress where needed with safety pins.
Step 4: Unbutton dress and bring the opposite side of it to the other side (as show in video) and pin under so pin is not visible. This also helps if dress is oversized to create a more form fitting look.
Step 5: Do the same to the other side and pin on back (as shown in video.)
Step 6: Cut sleeves from top to halfway to the bottom (not all the way!) to create that “cold shoulder” look.
Step 7: Use pins to “clean up” dress either on the sides you brought together oppositely and also on the shoulder/sleeve area, always doing your best to hide pins. The dress will have a “raw” finish and now a days there’s really nothing wrong with that. I’ve seen ripped shirts being sold for more than $30 at the mall BUT if you do want a more finished look you can always use a sewing machine OR fashion adhesive/glue gun to finish the ends of where you cut.
Step 8: (Favorite part!) DO THE HAPPY G-MA DANCE!!
Hope you guys and enjoyed and as usual feedback is appreciated!
